Hutch and Waldo, a delightful café located at 247 E 81st St in New York City, seamlessly blends the essence of Australian coffee culture with a vibrant food scene. With an array of coffee offerings – from the robust 48 Hour Cold Brew to the smooth Matcha Latte using Matchaful – it’s no surprise that patrons rave about their beverages. Samuel H expresses his admiration for the café, noting the friendly baristas and fresh, nourishing bites that enhance the café experience. Highlighting the food, dishes like the Avocado Smash and the delicious Breakfast Burrito are favorites among guests, praised for their freshness and flavor. Tiffany Harmer's love for the warm, hearty Nude Bowl showcases Hutch and Waldo’s commitment to satisfying breakfasts. However, while the café excels in food and drink, some visitors have pointed out the cramped outdoor seating area, which can pose a navigation challenge during busy times. Overall, Hutch and Waldo captures the spirit of community and warmth, making it a cherished spot on the Upper East Side. The combination of excellent service and high-quality offerings ensures that each visit is more than just a meal—it's a joyful experience waiting to unfold.

I recently had the pleasure of spending 3.5 weeks on the Australian coast, situated between Brisbane and Byron Bay. There, I fell in love with the coffee and cafe culture and suddenly realized why Aussie spots have been proliferating across Manhattan and LA. It’s because the baristas are friendlier; the food is fresher, more vibrant, healthier; the lattes are always smooth and satisfying. These spots are *that* much better than what most Americans are used to; Hutch & Waldo encapsulates that perfectly. Order at the counter; chat with the staff; enjoy an excellent latte or some nourishing bites. The conversations happening across the counter are genuine, and everything I’ve ordered here has been great as well - love the use of Matchaful in the matcha lattes. I’ll be leaving NYC next month, but I’m happy the neighborhood now has a spot like Hutch & Waldo. An experience here should make any New Yorker just a bit friendlier and less uptight.

The flat whit and brunch is excellent. Definitely a spot that you can enjoy your morning. Just my coffee was not served by mug cup so I couldn’t see the latte art.

It's nice, I just wish the general area was a little less cramped. There's a lot of street obstacles like chairs, tables, dogs, kids and strollers with nowhere out of the way to park, so it becomes hard to navigate. Forming a line is hard as well due to the lack of space Please install a top wall or pigeon spikes on the ledges over the ordering/waiting area. Pigeons often sit up there and cause issues with poop falling.

This breakfast hit the spot. The nude bowl was warm, hearty, flavorful, and filling- just what I needed for my day. The restaurant does not have indoor seating, which was somewhat disappointing on a cold morning; however, the food and service more than made up for it!

Absolutely delicious-and a treasure on the UES! The Brekkie Sando is superb and the coffee a perfect beverage for it. Try everything you can! Update: still awesome!

Lovely place. Seating only outside. Loved the crispy kale salad. Avocado toast was pretty good as well, big peace of a hearty bread with a lot of avocado. Will come back.

Australian coffeeshops, all brewing great coffee, seem to have taken over NY and Hutch and Waldo is no exception. I came here for a latte but seeing all the people hanging out enjoying brunch, I ended up getting a bite. I had the avocado toast - not the most amazing I’ve had - but let me just say, they do not skimp on the avocado. Excellent value! And the coffee’s great!
